Classes at Languages Across Borders (LAB) Montreal are not only held in the classrooms, but also in the city of Montreal, where students can physically venture out into the city to learn English.

LAB offers a monthly Student of the Month recognition opportunity, where the student who represents the month is awarded. Some students are awarded scholarships of two to four weeks, with the possibility of extending their study abroad experience.

There is also the Ambassador of the Year award, an annual award that gives the recipient and their family free English language classes at LAB for life, which is a great motivator for all students.

• GENERAL ENGLISH

  This is a General English Course open to everyone. Enrollment starts every Monday and the minimum duration of the course is one week.
  
  This course is designed to help students improve their speaking, listening, writing and reading skills that are useful in real life situations. The goal of this course is to develop self-confidence in English communication.

• ACADEMIC ENGLISH

  This course is designed for students who are preparing to enter universities and colleges in North America. Students will work with reading texts from a wide range of disciplines to improve their grammatical accuracy and vocabulary.
  
  The minimum course length is 4 weeks, the minimum level of participation is Pre-Intermediate with a monthly start date.

• IELTS PREPARATION

  This 4-week course is designed to prepare students for the official IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examinations.
  
  The course includes practice tests to help students learn test-taking techniques and tips in order to achieve their target scores in all four skills. The three start dates are predetermined annually.

• ACADEMIC WRITING

  This course is suitable for students who wish to pursue higher education with a focus on writing.
  
  Students will learn how to write academic essays while also improving their grammar and vocabulary proficiency. The four start dates are predetermined annually.

• ESL/FSL FOR THE CULINARY ARTS

  This 4-week course is designed for those who want to learn culinary English and work as a professional chef.
  
  The objective of the program is to develop vocabulary related to cooking, such as the names of various ingredients, and ways of expressing flavors and tastes of food. The four start dates are predetermined annually.

Area Features

As French is the official language in Montreal, the city has a European atmosphere even though it is in Canada.

Students may want to schedule a visit with new friends to the world-famous Montreal Jazz Festival or one of the many festivals in the city, such as the Montreal Fireworks Festival.
