Facilities to support learning include Smart TVs in all classrooms, high-speed wi-fi, a modern integrated sound system and an app that delivers the results of proficiency tests.

Programs

  • General English

    This is a standard English course where students learn basic English and can choose from twenty, twenty-three, twenty-four or thirty lessons to be taken in a week. For students who wish to take more than 24 lessons per week, a student visa will be required.
    Students are divided into classes according to the placement test taken at the time of enrollment, so they can take classes that best suit their language ability.
    Classes are small, so students can make full use of the 45 minutes per lesson.

  • Academic Year

    This course is intended to provide support for college life students who are attending an American university. An addition to the main program, this course is open to students who have questions or concerns about their college coursework outside of class. In this program, students can ask questions and discuss college course content outside class time.
    Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 24 weeks to be eligible for this course.

  • TOEFL Exam Preparation

    This is a TOEFL examination preparation program. Students can choose between 20 plus 6 test preparation lessons per week or 24 plus 6 test preparation lessons per week. The course is open to students who have achieved a grade of lower advanced (C1) or higher on the placement test at the time of enrollment. Student visas are also required to enroll in this course. Work with native instructors on the TOEFL examination preparation used at over 9,000 universities in 130 countries worldwide.

  • Private Lessons

    Private lessons can be added after regular classes. This course allows students to consult directly with the instructor on a one-to-one basis concerning issues they did not understand in class or areas in which they would like to further improve their language skills. Lessons can be scheduled at any time after school and lessons are available for both conversation and speech practice. Gain confidence in conversational skills by getting direct instruction and feedback from instructors.

  • English plus Experience in California

    This program allows students to gain work experience during their after-class hours and CEL offers students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience at local companies in California. To participate in this program, students must complete a questionnaire and have a telephone interview with school staff before coming to California.
    Students will then take a minimum of 4 weeks of lessons at CEL and begin their internship from there. For those who dream of moving to California in the future, CEL offers the chance to actually give it a shot!

  • English plus Volunteering

    This program allows students to participate in activities of non-profit organizations after classes. The activities that are held range from guiding staff at a history museum to supporting staff for a marathon. The duration of the activities range from two weeks to one year. For this program, students are required to participate at least three times a week. The actual activities available vary depending on the time of the year.
    The school will match the student with a non-profit organization (NPO) after the student informs the school of the type of activity in which he or she wishes to participate.
