The national carrier Air Algeria was established in 1946 as Générale de Transports Aériens. Prior to Algerian independence, the majority owners of Air Algeria were two shipping companies, the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and the Compagnie de Navigation Mixte. After independence, the ownership moved to Air France and the Délégation Générale of Algeria. In 1963, Air Algeria took on national flag carrier status when the Algerian government took possession of 51% of the company assets. In 1964, the Algerian government escalated its share to 57%, and in 1970 it again increased its share, to 83%.

I had a very nice trip with my wife and 2 children. The food was good, and I had an excellent wine onboard. It was very economical, but I was satisfied with the cleanliness of the craft. I will certainly fly with Air Algeria again.
