For Economy and Premium Economy tickets, American Airlines has a weight limit for checked baggage of up to 23kg/50lbs. For First and Business Class ticket holders, checked baggage may weight up to 32kg/70lbs. Economy Class ticket holders are allowed one or two pieces of checked luggage depending on the route. Note that Basic Economy fares often don't include checked baggage. Domestic routes normally do not include checked baggage for economy fares apart from Premium Economy and costs $30.

American Airlines offers a Basic Economy Class for cheaper tickets than its standard economy. Basic Economy does not include checked baggage for most routes and must be bought as an extra option. Only carry-on baggage comes free with American Airlines Basic Economy. You'll also need to pay extra if you wish to select your seat. Miles earned are also reduced and changes are not permitted.

Online Check-In

Passengers holding a valid American Airlines air ticket can check in online through the American Airlines website by simply clicking on the "Travel Information" drop-down menu and clicking on online check-in at the right corner of the menu. Online check-in is available from 24 hours up to 45 minutes before departure time.

Counter Check-In

For guests with special requests, check-in has to be processed at the American Airlines counter at least 2 to 3 hours before the scheduled departure time. When checking-in at the airport, passengers must present their American Airlines air ticket along with the necessary travel documents.
