Established in 2004 as Romania's first low-cost carrier (LCC), Blue Air aimed to revolutionize the country's air travel market, where tickets were still prohibitively expensive for the general public. Initially expected to drive the development of Romania's aviation sector, the airline faced competition from the national flag carrier, TAROM, and the country's robust railway network. This led to a temporary withdrawal from domestic routes. However, in 2015, Blue Air reintroduced its Bucharest-Iași route, marking its return to domestic services. As of 2017, the airline operates flights to and from nine airports within Romania.
One of Blue Air's greatest strengths lies in its extensive network across Europe. The airline connects over 70 airports in various European countries at affordable prices. Additionally, it actively engages in code-sharing agreements with airlines like Air Moldova, Blue Panorama Airlines, and Georgian Airways.
What sets Blue Air apart is that it operates not only routes linking Romanian airports to international destinations but also numerous routes between major European airports outside of Romania. This makes Blue Air a convenient and budget-friendly option for travelers exploring key European destinations.
