Located in South Africa, Kimberley is the largest city and the capital the of the Northem Cape Province. The urban area of Kimberley has a total population of 225.160, according to the 2011 census.The history of the city begins in 1866 when Danie Jacobs discovered the first diamonds in the area. The area of operation called Big Hole stretched over 14 ha, triggering a rapid development of the city, which in 1873 became the second largest city in South Africa.

My boyfriend and I have been passionate about Africa by always. Last year, we decided to buy a ticket for our first vacation on this continent. The first city of destination was Kimberley. The closest airport to where we could buy a direct ticket plane was Johannesburg. Because we bought the ticket with 2 months before the departure, we had affordable ticket prices — this is a good tip if you are traveling on a budget. We wanted to see one of the greatest mines in the world and to check if Kimberley shines as it said — is considered the capital of diamonds in South Africa. There were shops from where you could buy diamonds 3 times cheapest than in Amsterdam. Even if we didn’t afford one, we liked a lot Kimberley and we are planning to buy a ticket to return here soon with our first child.
Exotic holiday in Kimberley
This year, I and my friends decided to have an exotic holiday, so we bought a ticket to Kimberley. We had a direct ticket plane with British Airlines from London to the closest international airport, Johannesburg. We made 11 hours to Johannesburg. From there we took anoher ticket plane to Kimberley, it was just 1-hour flight with cheap plane tickets, so in 12 hours we change London with Kimberley.
We've visited everything the tour guides have planned, and we did not regret: The Big Hole, The McGregor Museum, The William Humphreys Art Gallery and The Kimberley Africana Library were on the list. The most impressive was by far, The Big Hole. For sure, Kimberley won’t be an easy to forget city.
