KLM stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, the Dutch airline was founded in 1919 with Queen Wilhelmina approving its ‘royal’ status because of their loyal service to the Netherlands. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is known as the oldest airline to have kept their original name. KLM had their very first intercontinental flight in October 1924 to Jakarta and have continued to grow since then.
For carry-on baggage with KLM, Economy Class passengers can bring one piece of hand luggage plus one small bag or item. Business Class Passengers can bring two pieces of carry-on luggage. Cabin baggage should weigh no more than 12kg/26lbs.
Carry-on baggage should be under 55 x 35 x 25cm in dimensions. The additional smaller hand luggage or item should be within 40 x 30 x 15cm.
KLM allows for a maximum weight of 23kg/50lbs per checked luggage. Economy Class passengers are allowed one piece of checked luggage and Business Class travelers are allowed two pieces per ticket with KLM. Note that KLM's Flying Blue Silver, Gold or Platinum members and Sky Team Elite and Elite Plus members are allowed one extra piece of checked baggage.
Maximum dimensions for KLM checked baggage (hold baggage) should be 158cm (length + height + width added together.)
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines pride themselves on the amount of entertainment they offer to their passengers. The entertainment system is one of the best with a wide range of movies, TV shows and games. Most KLM flights also have in-flight Wi-FI, although this is usually at an additional cost to connect.
KLM baggage fees are usually cheaper if booked online before check in. It costs EUR 50/USD 60 for an extra item of checked baggage of up to 23kg between the US and Europe. For flights within Europe expect to pay EUR 25 or EUR 15 for short flights.

KLM Cityhopper is an independently operating airline that's owned by KLM, providing a number of short flights within Europe on behalf of KLM. The airline has a few small aircrafts that fly some of KLM's busy routes and offers the same in-flight service as KLM.
Flying Blue is the membership program operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and it is free to join. Your Flying Blue number is given to you upon registration and you can use it to accumulate miles on your account. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines offers Award Miles which can be spent on air tickets or lounge access whereas Level Miles can offer you greater services than Award Miles can. Level Miles are for high membership flyers.
KLM ticket holders who do not have special requests can check in prior to arriving at the airport through the KLM's website. The online check-in process is simply and fast, and this will save time. If you have baggage to check-in, remember to stop by the baggage drop off counter once you arrive at the airport.
Economy Comfort for KLM is similar to Economy Premium Class in other airlines, offering a slightly larger seat and legroom than the standard Economy Class seats.
