Established in 1954 as a state-owned enterprise, MIAT Mongolian Airlines initially served as Mongolia’s national carrier. The airline launched its first international routes in 1986 and was privatized in 1993, adopting its current name. MIAT, an abbreviation for "Mongolian Civil Air Transport Company," appears on all official documents. Since the inception of its international operations, MIAT has leveraged Mongolia’s vast geography to develop a robust airline network, focusing on fleet expansion and international route development. With over 1,500 employees, MIAT remains Mongolia's flagship carrier.
Mongolian Airlines operates primarily from its main hub at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, with an additional focus on regional airports across Mongolia. The airline has developed a growing network that connects travelers to key destinations in Asia and Europe, facilitating both tourism and business travel.
