The city of Owensboro is the county seat of Daviess County found in the state of Kentucky, United States. Based on a 2010 population, Owensboro has a population of more than 57,000 making it the fourth largest city in Kentucky. A home rule-class city, Owensboro is situated southwest of Louisville. Owensboro became a settlement area in 1797 and named it Yellow Banks. It was not until 1817 when it was established as Owensborough, and incorporated a city in 1850. With hot summers and moderately cold winters, Owensboro experiences a humid subtropical climate.
