Transavia Airlines was established in 1965 as Transavia Holland. The airline was renamed "Transavia Airlines" in 1986. In 2003, it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of KLM, part of the Air France-KLM Group, while continuing to operate as an independent company. In 2005, Transavia merged with its low-cost carrier, Basiq Air, and has since expanded its network as a Dutch low-cost airline focusing on Europe and the Mediterranean region.
As of 2015, Transavia operates flights to 99 destinations worldwide, primarily catering to summer and winter holiday locations in Europe and the Mediterranean. Popular destinations include Lisbon, Barcelona, Marrakech, Istanbul, Dubai, Copenhagen, Nice, Berlin, Athens, Rome, Malta, Paphos, Mykonos, and Kos. The airline’s main hub is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, with additional focus airports in Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Paris Orly Airport.
Transavia’s fleet primarily consists of Boeing aircraft, including 35 Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 planes. Additionally, the airline operates a subsidiary, Transavia France, which further expands its network and services in Europe and the Mediterranean. Transavia continues to offer affordable and reliable travel options, making it a popular choice for leisure travelers.
