The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines was established under the name “Vietnam Civil Aviation” in 1956. In 1989, the airline became a state-owned aviation company and was christened as Vietnam Airlines, with operations headquarters in Hanoi. Due to economic and political turmoil, Vietnam Airlines remained a minor carrier for many years, but with eventual stabilization of the government it was able to modernize and expand its fleet and improve its services. In 1996, as part of this expansion, the Government of Vietnam consolidated 20 service enterprises into one unit and formed the Vietnam Airlines Corporation, which became a limited liability company in 2010 under the name Vietnam Airlines Company Limited.
Vietnam Airlines has a second main hub in Ho Chi Minh City, at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, and a secondary hub at Da Nang International Airport. Vietnam Airlines is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance of 20 airline carriers from 5 continents, and has codeshare agreements with 22 international airlines that span the globe. Vietnam Airlines’ rapid expansion is symbolized in its slogan, “Reach Further.”

Arrangements for assistance for special needs passengers can also be made at the time of the air ticket purchase.
Some flights offer in-flight multimedia entertainment on individual video screens with personal remote controls. Pillows and blankets are offered on longer fights for the comfort of all air ticket class levels.
I had a pleasant flying experience with Vietnam Airlines. It was as comfortable as home, and I really appreciate their traditional hospitality. The staff was extremely friendly, and the in-flight
service was impeccable. My whole family enjoyed the trip. I will certainly recommend Vietnam Airlines to my friends.
I always imagined that flying to the East would be complicated and exhausting, especially due to the long haul service. But my perception changed completely when I travelled Vietnam Airlines from California to Hanoi. It was a beautiful experience. The on-board service was fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed the authentic oriental food dishes that I had pre-ordered. Absolutely everything was beyond my expectations. I will definitely fly Vietnam Airlines again in the future.
Online air ticket booking is available on all domestic and international flights operated by Vietnam Airlines.

In 1999, Vietnam Airlines introduced its own unique frequent flyer loyalty program called LotusMiles. All passengers who book air tickets on Vietnam Airlines, its Sky Team partners, or its codeshare affiliates are eligible to become LotusMiles members and begin to enjoy program benefits by earning mileage points, and bonus mileage points are added on the LotusMiles member’s birthday. As a member’s mileage points increase, their status level increases as well, from the Basic “Silver” level to Elite “Platinum” and “Gold” levels, to Elite Plus “Titanium” level. Status levels are calculated according to number of miles flown and the number of flights, and accrued points can be exchanged for free air tickets, air ticket upgrades, preferred seating, and extra baggage allowances.
