1The Origins of Xiamen Airlines
Based in Xiamen, Fujian Province, and operating out of Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport as its hub, Xiamen Airlines was founded in 1984 through a joint investment by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Fujian Province, and Xiamen City. The CAAC's shares have since been transferred to China Southern Airlines, making Xiamen Airlines a subsidiary of China Southern.
Xiamen Airlines is unique in China as the only airline to exclusively use Boeing aircraft, with a fleet of over 100 planes. In 2004, the airline changed its Chinese call sign from "Xiahang" to "Bailu" (Egret). Correspondingly, its mileage program was renamed the "Egret Card" (白鷺里程奨励), reflecting this update.
