Egypt's Attractions

Egypt has several attractions that one can visit. Egypt, for instance, has the Giza Pyramids. If you travel to the Egypt city of Aswan, note that you will have to travel 720 km to Cairo to see the Pyramids. One needs to remember this when planning their trip to Egypt. That will enable one to visit all the beautiful sites in Egypt with plenty of time. In the Egypt city of Luxor, one may visit the Valley of Kings and Queen Hatshepsut Temple. The Egypt city of Alexandria has sites like the Pompeii Pillars, Kome El-Dikka Amphitheatre, and several other attractions. The Egyptian city of Sinai has several ancient cities one may visit. I visited the cities of Taba, Nuweiba, Sharm El-sheik and Dahab. The cities gave me a glimpse of how ancient Egypt operated.

Security concerns when visiting Egypt

As a visitor, I was cautioned aginst visiting certain sites by the Egyptian authorities. The sites were those around the Nile valley centre. Some years ago, Islamic radicals targeted tourists with the aim of destabilizing the tourism industry. All this was geared towards toppling the Egyptian government. The government of Egypt came up with measures to counter these radical groups. Egypt also experienced the Arab Spring. The people protested against the Egyptian government in 2011 leading to the resignation of then president Mubarak. The media portrayed the country as a dangerous place, while on the ground, the country was safe. Some of the most beautiful attractions are in Minya, Sohag, and Asyut, located in the Nile valley in Egypt. The attractions here are the Asyut monasteries and the Akhetaten city of old, as well as several other sites. Egypt's police will not allow one to visit these areas alone so be prepared for an escort to these sites.

Entertainment for all ages!

Previously, there was not much entertainment available to tourists outside Cairo. In the month of Ramadhan and during public holidays, one can go out to watch theatre productions or listen to traditional Egyptian music at Beit Zaeinab Khartoun. It is located behind the Azhar Mosque. Egypt is also famous for the Tanoora dancing performance. While in Egypt, take a dinner cruise on the Nile and you will be able to see this. A hotel called the Wikala of El Ghoury also offers the dancing performance, free of charge, at 9 p.m., every Wednesday and Saturday. I enjoyed watching belly dancing while in Egypt. Egypt belly dancing is a blend of gypsy, folk, and Ottoman movement patterns. When the sun goes down in Egypt, the historical sights are illuminated and tourists are treated to a lights and sounds show.
