Only Foreign Alcohol and Perfume Available

Due to tax regulations, only foreign alcohol and perfume are available. This also varies by airport, but as of October 2019 at Narita Airport's arrival duty-free shop, you could find alcohol like Glenfiddich, Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Wild Turkey, and Chinese liquors.
Perfumes included brands like BVLGARI and Chloé.

Tobacco Includes Foreign Brands Like Marlboro as Well as Domestic Brands Like Mevius

Alongside foreign brands like Marlboro and Lucky Strike, domestic brands such as Mevius are also available.
Heated tobacco products such as IQOS are also available. The price is around 4,200 yen per carton (10 packs) as of June 2023 at the Fukuoka Airport arrival duty-free shop. This shows how much more smokers usually pay in taxes.

Be Aware of Japan’s Duty-Free Allowances When Using Arrival Duty-Free Shops

For cigarettes: a total of 200 cigarettes is allowed tax-free, combining both domestic and foreign brands. For alcohol: up to 3 bottles (approximately 760ml each). For perfume: up to 2 ounces. Goods exceeding 200,000 yen in total value will also be taxed. These limits apply in total, including items purchased overseas, so please be cautious.
If you exceed the alcohol allowance, the tax rate differs by product, so it’s more economical to apply duty-free status to whiskey or brandy and pay tax on wine or beer.
