Air India - Overview

Air India is the flag carrier and national airline of India, based out of their hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The airline was founded in 1932 as Tata Airlines and first commenced operations in 1946. Air India also owns two subsidiaries, Alliance Air and Air India Express, who focus mainly on domestic flights and flights to neighboring countries in Asia.

For most international routes Air India allows Economy Class passengers to bring two pieces of checked baggage at 23kg/50lbs per piece. Business Class passengers may bring two pieces of checked baggage of up to 32kg/70lbs per piece.

Air India First class

Air India’s First Class is luxurious and comfortable, aiming to fulfill all your needs so you can have the best flight possible. It focuses on comfort with 180-degree recliner chairs. The capacity is only 12 passengers so each seat has a lot of privacy. Food choices on first class are grilled lamb chops, cheese omelets, chicken malai kabab and regal shahi korma. Vintage wine or smooth champagne are also available.

Executive Class

Air India's Executive Class is similar to Business Class with other airlines, offering wide high-quality seats, lounge facilities and a range of delicious foods and alcoholic drinks on board flights.

Mileage Program of Air India

Air India has a mileage and frequent flyer program called Flying Returns. Members can earn miles to be used to buy flights, flight upgrades and other services with Air India and their partner airlines.

As Air India is part of Star Alliance, they are partnered with airlines such as Air Canada, United and ANA. Passengers can share miles between Air India and other Star Alliance members to use for flight upgrades and flight purchases.
