Ayers Rock is a huge monolith of weathered rock located in the northern territory in central Australia.Ayers rock also known as Uluru was first sighted in 1872 by Ernest Giles an explorer. Ayers Rock is the second largest monolith with a height of 1,142 feet above the surrounding area which is a desert plain. Ayers Rock which is also a rock formation of sandstone is held sacred by the Aboriginal people of the area. Ayers Rock is which is a major historical and tourist attraction site has an abundance of springs, caves, ancient paintings and waterholes. Ayers Rock is also recognized as a UNESCO world heritage location.
