6 Accommodations on Tarama Island Between Miyako Island and Ishigaki Island! The Charm Lies in Its Simple, Remote Island Atmosphere

B! LINE

Tarama Island is a small island about 15 km in circumference, located between Miyako Island and Ishigaki Island. Since tourism isn’t particularly developed here, it has the feel of a remote island known only to a few. You can reach Tarama Island by plane or ferry from Miyako Island or Ishigaki Island. By plane, it takes about 25 minutes from Miyako Island, while the ferry ride takes around 2 hours. Getting around the island can be done on foot, by bicycle, rental car, or via a shuttle bus that connects the airport and the port. The island is a flat, uplifted coral island with very few facilities that could be called tourist attractions. However, its greatest charm lies in simply spending a relaxing time on one of Okinawa’s remote islands. Here are six accommodations you can stay at when visiting Tarama Island.

1. Yume Patio Tarama

The most well-equipped accommodation on Tarama Island is "Yume Patio Tarama". However, it’s not a hotel—it’s a village-run cottage-style lodging. In fact, there are no hotels on Tarama Island!
There are four cottages, each containing three twin rooms inside. That makes a total of 12 rooms available for general tourists. In addition, there’s a Japanese-style building with two large rooms, each about 17 tatami mats in size, which can be used for training camps or workshops. The red-tiled buildings are surrounded by Okinawan Fukugi trees, creating a relaxing and atmospheric vibe.
The facilities within the cottages are shared, including toilets, showers, washbasins, a kitchen, and laundry. Everything you need is properly equipped. Since the place is well-cleaned and maintained, it’s the most suitable lodging for those who prioritize comfort on Tarama Island.

2. Minshuku Marumiya

Minshuku Marumiya is a guesthouse run by a local fisherman on Tarama Island. The biggest draw, of course, is the fresh seafood cuisine. You can enjoy plenty of Okinawan fish, prepared in hearty and satisfying dishes!
They also offer rental cars and bicycles, with discounted rates for guests. There’s even a shuttle service to and from the airport or port.
At Marumiya, you can also experience marine leisure activities on Tarama Island. They offer snorkeling, coconut crab tours, trips to the neighboring Minna Island, and, in true fisherman fashion, you can try traditional fishing or offshore angling.

3. COCO House

COCO House is a bright, casual place to stay, with its cheerful yellow and blue exterior. It’s made up of COCO House, which has 8 Japanese-style rooms, and COCO Land, which has 10 Western-style rooms. Both share a common reception area. COCO Land is mainly self-catering, but you can have meals next door at COCO House. COCO House usually offers two meals (breakfast and dinner), though you can also opt for just breakfast or just dinner.
Every room comes with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a refrigerator. There’s even a free training room on-site! For those into scuba diving and marine activities, they provide a space to wash your gear and dryers, making it super convenient. This is an ideal place for travelers who want to fully enjoy everything Tarama Island has to offer!

4. Midoriya Ryokan

This is a lodging facility that also operates a soba noodle restaurant, and the soba is actually what it's famous for! Their Okinawa soba is packed with toppings—meat, fish cakes, and goya (bitter melon)—offering a refreshing yet hearty taste. It’s only available at lunchtime, but it’s definitely a dish you should try at least once while staying on Tarama Island.
As for the inn itself, it has the nostalgic charm of an old-fashioned guesthouse on a remote island. The rates are very reasonable and include two meals a day. Since they have irregular holidays, make sure to confirm and book in advance if you’d like to stay.

5. Guesthouse Daitoku

Guesthouse Daitoku is a budget accommodation run by the travel agency Daitoku Shoji on Tarama Island. It’s a simple place offering only lodging, but the prices are very cheap. Despite the low price, every room is equipped with an air conditioner, shower, and toilet! There’s a shared veranda outside the building where guests can gather and have a lively barbecue.
They also operate the only bicycle rental shop on Tarama Island, and guests can rent bikes at affordable prices. On this small island, bicycles are a key means of transportation, so having easy access to one is a big advantage.

6. Pension Adan

At first glance, this place may look like a temporary prefab building at a construction site, but it’s a decent accommodation on Tarama Island! Of course, the prices are very budget-friendly, and every room has air conditioning and a TV.
You can choose either lodging only or stay with two meals included. There are also several restaurants nearby, so you won’t have trouble finding a place to eat. They also offer a shuttle service to and from the airport or port, so be sure to ask when you make your reservation.
