With busy schedules filled with work, study, household chores, and childcare, many people in Japan don’t often have the time to enjoy a proper massage. But since you’re already traveling, wouldn’t it be nice to treat yourself to a massage or spa as a reward for all your hard work?
This time, we’ll introduce massage shops around the historic district of the Macau Peninsula. Be sure to enjoy a massage in Macau and relax!
1. Wong Chio Massage Centre
Located about 10 minutes by taxi from Senado Square, the historic district of the Macau Peninsula, is Wong Chio Massage Centre. Look for the blue footprint-shaped sign with the word “皇朝” written in yellow. Skilled massage therapists are always available here, offering intense reflexology (foot massage) if you have tired or weak areas, as well as full-body massages.
Before starting the foot massage, your feet are soaked in herbal medicine-infused hot water to relax them. If you feel pain when pressure is applied to a certain part of your sole, it’s a sign of fatigue. You can even ask the therapist which part of your body is tired based on the pain points. For the full-body massage, the therapist holds onto ceiling bars and uses their feet to apply body weight across your back.
They also offer shiatsu, pressing firmly on acupressure points to relieve stiffness. Since this center is open 24 hours, you can visit anytime, but it may get crowded depending on the time of day. If you’re going in a group, making a reservation is recommended.

2. Chang Chun Massage Centre
Chang Chun Massage Centre is located just a short walk from St. Anthony’s Church in Macau’s historic district. The shop’s sign says “長春按摩.” This is a very local massage shop, so you’ll find fewer tourists here. As a result, service is mainly in Chinese rather than English.
The menu consists of two options: full-body massage and foot massage. These are said to promote metabolism, relieve fatigue, and even help with headaches and insomnia. If you’d like to experience a more local-style massage atmosphere, Chang Chun Massage Centre is a great choice.

◎ Summary
We’ve introduced two massage shops in the historic district of the Macau Peninsula. At local massage shops, English may not be widely spoken, so try to communicate using Chinese characters.
Foot massages may feel painful at first, but gradually the pain turns into comfort, giving you excellent relaxation effects. If a particular spot hurts, it’s a sign of weakness in that area, so you’ll quickly know what’s wrong. Once back in Japan, be sure to take care of those parts of your body.
