2. The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum
The Royal Canadian Regiment Museum is one of the museums dedicated to Canada's first infantry regiment with a long and rich history. 4. Banting House
Banting House is the former residence of Dr. Frederick Banting, the scientist who discovered insulin, an essential treatment for diabetes. Born in Alliston, Ontario, Dr. Banting studied medicine at the University of Toronto and, in June 1920, moved to Western University in London, Ontario, as a lecturer. In October of the same year, he had a groundbreaking idea about extracting pancreatic secretions, which he quickly wrote down in his notebook. This idea eventually led him back to the University of Toronto, where he successfully developed insulin.
Although Dr. Banting lived in London for only about 10 months, his time there played a crucial role in the discovery of insulin, making this site a historically significant attraction in London. Today, Banting House is designated as a National Historic Site of Canada and attracts many visitors. Inside the house, visitors can find various exhibits related to Dr. Banting, including an official replica of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which he received in 1923. Outside the house stands a bronze statue of Dr. Banting, depicted as a scientist taking notes.
