Introducing one of Okinawa’s power spots: the “Fukugi Tree-Lined Path (Bise’s Fukugi Tree Path).” This hidden gem is located right near the Churaumi Aquarium. The Fukugi tree, written as “福木” in Japanese, contains the character for “fortune,” and is therefore considered an auspicious plant. Many visitors come to enjoy the scenic view of this tree-lined path formed by these lucky Fukugi trees.
What is the Fukugi Tree Tunnel?
Fukugi trees are originally native to the Philippines and Taiwan, and in Japan, they are only found in Okinawa Prefecture. Okinawa is known for frequent typhoons, but by planting Fukugi trees in rows, they have historically served as windbreaks, protecting people for generations.
Thick-leaved Fukugi
Unlike the common trees we usually see, Fukugi leaves are tough. Their thickness and hardness are the secrets behind their ability to withstand strong winds. When you visit the Fukugi Tree Tunnel, get up close and take a look for yourself.
Fukugi is an evergreen tall tree that maintains its green leaves throughout the year. It's a place that can be enjoyed in any season.
