It’s easily accessible—about an hour and a half from the city center by local train—making it perfect for a day trip and a casual travel experience. 1. Odawara Castle, the timeless symbol of the City

The white castle that has continued to watch over the city of Odawara—Odawara Castle. It was once praised as an "impregnable fortress" for repelling attacks from famous generals like Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen. Its dignified appearance shines even more beautifully white after the recent large-scale renovation known as the "Heisei Grand Restoration."

It’s about a 10-minute walk from Odawara Station. First, take in its majestic appearance from the outside. Once inside, you’ll find a variety of exhibits that teach the history of both Odawara and the castle. Climb the stairs to the top of the main keep, and you’ll be greeted with a spectacular panoramic view of Odawara. For children, there are shuriken games and costume experiences as a ninja or princess, making it a sightseeing spot that the whole family can enjoy.

2. Azumayama Park, enjoy a panoramic view and seasonal flowers!

Azumayama Park is located in Ninomiya Town, Naka District. It’s a popular park known for its breathtaking views around the Odawara area. From the observation deck at the summit of the park, you can see a full 360-degree panorama including Odawara cityscape, Sagami Bay, Izu, Hakone, Ōshima, Tanzawa, and even Mt. Fuji. Seasonal flowers like canola blossoms, cherry blossoms, azaleas, hydrangeas, and cosmos delight the eyes of visitors throughout the year. A new moss phlox garden has been added, allowing you to enjoy a lovely pink carpet of flowers in March and April.

Just about a 5-minute walk from Ninomiya Station, it’s also easily accessible, making it perfect for sightseeing. Since you’ll be climbing a slope to reach the summit observation deck, it’s recommended to wear comfortable and easy-to-move-in clothes when visiting.

3. Fireflies in Summer! The nature-rich Itsukushima Wetland Park

Itsukushima Wetland Park is a rare natural area in the Odawara region. It’s located near the Itsukushima Shrine in Nakai Town, Ashigarakami District. Known for its natural spring water since ancient times, the constantly flowing water allowed many wild animals and wetland plants to thrive. This park was developed and maintained to preserve this valuable natural environment. Centered around the Itsukushima Shrine, it features accessible wooden paths through the wetlands, gazebos, rest areas, and lawn spaces, making it a perfect spot for sightseeing. It’s ideal for enjoying nature near Odawara. From mid-May to mid-July, you can witness the magical scene of fireflies dancing. The romantic "Evening of Bamboo Lanterns" event, which uses repurposed bamboo from forest maintenance, is also popular with visitors.

4. Fascinating Exhibits! Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History

The Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History was established in 1995 as the natural history division of the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum became independent. It’s one of the most extensive exhibition venues in Odawara, perfect for sightseeing and exploring natural sciences. With the theme “Considering the Future of Earth from Its Birth 4.6 Billion Years Ago,” the Earth Exhibit Room introduces Earth's birth and its relationship with the universe up to the present. 5. Enjoy Tea in a Traditional Sukiya-style Japanese House! Seikantei

Seikantei is located not far from Odawara Castle. It was built in 1906 as a villa for Marquis Nagashige Kuroda, who became a member of the nobility after serving as the lord of the Fukuoka Domain. This sukiya-style house from the Meiji period isn’t flashy, but its comfortable living design and commitment to quality make for a refined structure. Admission is free, making it ideal for sightseeing. The second floor serves as an exhibition space, while the first floor houses “Resort Café Seikantei,” where you can enjoy delicious coffee, matcha, and cakes while gazing at the beautiful garden. The café closes at 4:00 PM, so be sure to visit early.

6. Packed with Freshly Picked Fruits and Vegetables! Asadore Farm Narita Store

Asadore Farm Narita Store is a popular farmers' market among tourists where you can find freshly picked local fruits and vegetables from Odawara. They also sell vegetable seedlings, fresh flowers, meat, fish, and pickled plums. Odawara is especially known for its abundance of citrus fruits. You’ll find a variety of kiwi, lemon, orange, and more. It's a community-based local spot also frequented by residents. Depending on the day’s stock, many items are indeed freshly picked that morning as the name suggests. Visiting early—right after it opens at 9:30 AM—increases your chances of finding the best produce.

7. A Must-Visit! Odawara Kamaboko Street

Hamamachi in Odawara City, where Odawara Kamaboko Street is located, was once a fishing village called “Funakata-mura” during the late 15th-century Hōjō period. Today, it still retains the charm of that era with nostalgic streets and a salty sea breeze that enhances the travel mood. Along Odawara Kamaboko Street, you’ll find not only famous kamaboko shops but also dried fish stores, katsuobushi shops, traditional restaurants, and many other establishments benefiting from the riches of Sagami Bay. Be sure to visit and enjoy the fisherman's town atmosphere, search for souvenirs, and savor some delicious local foods.

8. Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine Honoring Ninomiya Kinjiro

Located in a corner of Odawara Castle’s Ninomaru area is the Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine. This shrine enshrines Ninomiya Kinjiro, later known as Ninomiya Sontoku. Born into poverty, he taught himself through self-study and dedicated his life during the Edo period to the revitalization of over 600 rural villages. In recognition of his achievements, the shrine was built in 1894. Though small in size, the shrine has a tasteful charm, making it a perfect stop on a sightseeing stroll. It’s also conveniently located near Odawara Castle. There’s a stylish “Kinjiro Café” on the premises, famous for coffee with latte art featuring Ninomiya Kinjiro himself.
