Turkmenistan is a country in South-Central Asia bordered by the spectacular Caspian Sea. The expansive Karakum Desert is home to the Darvaza Gas Crater, which is locally known as “Gates of Hell”. The crater has been burning of natural gas since 1971 and attracts thousands of sightseeing tourists each year. Turkmenistan is also home to some famous archeological sites and architectural monuments such as the Neutrality Monument in Ashgabat.
