The capital city of the US state Nebraska is a fascinating destination. Lincoln was founded in 1856 and was called Lancaster. The city previously was a village and has outgrown itself over the years then finally became the capital city of Nebraska in 1867. In the same year the city got renamed from Lancaster to Lincoln. The US government plays a big part in especially Lincoln's everyday life. 1. Nebraska State Capitol

The first sight to check out in Lincoln would be the Nebraska State Capitol. Located in downtown, it is easily accessible. The capitol building was completed in 1932 and is the official seat of the US government for the state of Nebraska. The architecture is very unique and attracts many tourists all over the year. The building is topped with a four hundred feet limestone dome tower and has extraordinary courtyards on the ground. Visitors will be able to take a tour and see the government form the"inside". After the capitol building a lovely tour can be taken around downtown for refreshments or just window shopping.

2. University of Nebraska State Museum

As locals would call it the "Elephant Hall" is our next stop through the gorgeous city of Lincoln. The museum is a natural history museum presenting Nebraska's biodiversity. Founded in 1871 the museum has a lot of interesting exhibits that visitors can see. People can get to know Nebraska's cultural diversity or can see the paleontology of the state during their visit. Visitors can adventure in the featuring planetarium in the museum and wonder through the biological diversity of the diverse state. After the museum people can also have a quick tour on the Nebraska University campus.

3. Lincoln Children's Zoo

The most child friendly zoo you will ever go to is located in Lincoln. The zoo is designed specially for children to experience the world that surrounds them. Children can have the chance to have a close up meeting with the zoo's animals and to get to know the world of animals through the zoo. The Lincoln Children's Zoo has a diverse range of all kinds of animals and birds as well. Visitors will be blown away by the cute train they can take and ride in the park while having the happiest and most relaxing tour in the zoo and park.

4. Sheldon Museum of Art

The Sheldon Museum of Art is the next place to hit on the list. The art museum focuses on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries art and artists. These centuries are very interesting especially art wise and that is the reason why the Sheldon Art Museum is an unmissable attraction. The museum will open up the visitor's eyes and people will have a wider sight on the world. The museum aims to represent American art among nineteenth century landscapes and interesting pop art. People can take a walk in the special sculpture garden and enjoy the rest of the day at the museum.

5. Lincoln Children's Museum

Another great place for kids and parents is the Lincoln Children's Museum. Not only the kids will love this place and consider the time spent here the time of their lives but parents will be able to loosen up and relax. The kid safe and friendly museum will fly children into the world of learning and they will be thought in a way that they won't even realize they were learning. The museum has three levels and on all levels kids can unfold their abilities while participating in educational exhibits or they can develop new skills in hands on activities.

6. National Museum of Rollerskating

Get your wheels on everybody! The National Museum of Rollerskating is open to any person who is interested in sports and enjoys to see legends. The museum is dedicated to one of the funnest free time sport: rollerskating. The museum is proudly possessing the world's largest collection of roller skates. The roller skates displayed at the National Museum of Rollerskating are historical and valuable which makes the visit delightful and fun. People can see costumes and memorabilia as well. After the museum it is fun to go to a roller skating rink and finish the day on wheels.

7. Nebraska History Museum

One of the most important places to visit while visiting Lincoln is the Nebraska History Museum. Everything that is the way it is today has a reason behind it. Coming from a different place you probably will have many questions. You can get responses to your questions in the Nebraska History Museum. The state museum is an old museum and visitors will be able to tour the longtime museum and see how Nebraska has evolved through the years by paying attention to the displayed history exhibitions or taking part in hands on activities.

Due to the park's huge size the Pioneers Park has the opportunity to offer numerous activities to those who would like to wonder in nature. The park is a preserve where people can enjoy the joy of being outside and having nothing on their minds. The landscape mainly includes prairie, wetland and forest which brings the opportunity for people to learn about the environment and animals right in the Nature Center.

The Sunken Gardens sounds deep. But what makes something regular so outstanding? Visitors who have already visited agree on one thing. The Sunken Gardens are a must see place in Lincoln. In fact the park is so gorgeous it has gotten listed on the National Geographic Guide to Public Gardens and has made it into the three hundred worth visiting gardens in the whole United States. The garden was built between the year of 1930 and 1931. People can take a quiet walk in the garden among the sculptures or can take a break on the silky lawn. The lily pond with the lush landscape will be an outstanding part of the visit.

10. Holmes Lake Recreation Area

The Holmes Lake Park is a recreational area in Lincoln where everyone can freely decide what to do in their free times. This place is an adventure because it is located by a lake which gives endless possibilities to bring you fun. People will enjoy walking by the water and watch the sun set. The open space is big, allowing everyone to play games or sports. An open public golf course is featured where pros and beginners can enjoy a friendly game. Holmes Park Recreational Area excels in teaching activities and they have an observatory on their grounds.
