Harmandir Sahib

One of the most beautiful sights of India, Harmandir Sahib or the 'Golden Temple' is also the most important pilgrimage site for Sikhism. Much of the building is built in marble and overlaid with gold foil, giving the building its beautiful golden appearance.

Hawa Mahal

The jewel of the pink city of Jaipur, the Palace of Winds or Hawa Mahal is famous for its stunning red and pink sandstone facade. This magnificent palace blends both Hindu Rajput architecture and Islamic Mughal architecture to create its unique appearance. The facade's iconic and elaborate windows known as Jharokhas were built to allow the royal ladies of the palace observe the common people below without being seen.

Taj Mahal

Words cannot do justice to India's most iconic structure and one of the new Wonders of the World. The sight of this beautiful palace has inspired countless pieces of art around the world. Built in the mid 17th century, the Taj Mahal was commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a grand tomb for one of his many wives, Mumtaz Mahal.

Neermahal

Often referred to as the 'Lake Palace' Neermahal is a huge royal palace complex built in the middle of Lake Rudrasagar. Showcasing a beautiful style of Hindu architecture, the palace was built for the Kingdom of Tripura during the British Raj.

Mehrangarh Fort

Looming over the picturesque blue city of Jodhpur, the Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest forts in India. Dating back to 1459, the fort is just as stunning around the inside of the building as the outside with its elaborate carvings and wide open courtyards.

This fascinating remote Buddhist monastery in the midst of the Himalayas is less about the actual architectural and all about the beautiful backdrop of scenery in the surrounding valley and beyond. While it's been rebuilt over the years, the monastery dates back to the 11th century and is still used by Buddhist monks to this day.

Gwalior Fort

Thought to date as far back as the 6th century, apart from being one of India's oldest forts, it's also one of the most spectacular. The whole fort covers an area of around three square kilometers and features a range of beautiful architecture, none less impressive than the imposing walls surrounding the premises. Apart from a number of towers and temples, the fort is also famous for its impressive statues carved into the rock face.
