Singapore and Hong Kong have opened a 'travel bubble' allowing for anyone in both countries to travel freely for any reason without the need for quarantine on arrival. Would-be travelers will need to undergo a PCR test within 72 hours of departure and will also be tested upon arrival. The new travel arrangement was announced last month and has started today (November 22nd).
While most countries in Asia require a 14-day quarantine period after arriving from a foreign country, this travel bubble will allow much easier travel arrangements between both countries and allow travel for pleasure rather than just business visits.
The new policy will apply to anyone who has stayed in either country for 14 days, meaning it's not just limited to citizens and residents of the respective countries. However flights will only run once per day with 200 passengers per flight until December 7th when the number will increase to two flights per day.
Are There Other Travel Bubbles like Singapore to Hong Kong?
There are a number of travel bubbles currently around the world, however many limit potential travelers to business reasons only. Japan has secured a travel bubble of sorts with Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Taiwan, a number of other potential travel bubbles are being discussed and could be implemented soon.
Singapore is also seeking to secure a travel bubble with Taiwan and other Asia-Pacific countries that have low numbers of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.
