B! LINE

Home to some of the most stunning and jaw-dropping scenery on earth, Norway is the perfect holiday for those wanting to escape to the great outdoors and be one with nature. Not only does the country offer beautiful natural scenery from its iconic fjords, steep valleys and jagged mountains, Norway is one of the best places to view the spectacular Northern Lights, which dance around the skies in the winter months.

One of the most beautiful and picturesque spots in Europe, Geirangerfjord is a perfect example of why Norway has some of the best scenery on earth. With incredible cascading waterfalls and steep mountains forming a stunning backdrop to the picturesque waters of the fjord, the area is best explored by taking one of the boats that take tourists around to view the landscape.

2. Lysefjorden (Stavanger)

Another of Norway's spectacular scenic fjords, Lysefjorden is known for the Preikestolen or Pulpit Rock, a huge towering cliff that offers amazing views down across the fjord and valley below. Another unmissable spot is Kjeragbolten, where a huge bolder is wedged between the edge of two mountains. The rock looks like it'll fall thousands of feet into the valley below at just a slight push, however it's actually very firmly wedged and takes hundreds of people stepping on it everyday without moving an inch.

3. Tromso (Tromso)

Tromsø is a city located in the far northern region of the country famed for its picturesque wooden houses and as a perfect spot for viewing the spectacular Northern Lights, which you can often see from September to April. Along with much of the north of the country, Tromso also sees a Polar Night from mid-November to January where the sun doesn't rise at all and Midnight Sun in the summer when it doesn't go dark. Apart from the polar phenomenons, the city is also famous for its distinctive Arctic Cathedral and the most northerly aquarium.

4. Lofoten (Nordland)

The Lofoton Islands are home to some of Norway's most dramatic scenery, which is saying something for a country known for its impressive peaks and beautiful fjords. Although the chain of islands are so far north, the climate is actually relatively mild due to the Gulf Stream, a warm current of air that blows across the islands. Some of the best scenic spots include the view from Reinebringen, Kvalvika beach and Henningsvaer, home to probably the most spectacular football field in the world. For the more adventurous climbers, check out The Goat, a huge towering pinnacle of rock with vast views down across the town of Svolvær and across the ocean.

5. Svalbard (Arctic Ocean)

For those looking for the ultimate adventure, consider taking a flight to the furthest north town in the world, Longyearbyen, on Norway's arctic island of Svalbard. The island is a great place to view the Northern Lights, especially during the winter when the region doesn't see any daylight. It's also the perfect location to view arctic wildlife, especially polar bears which are plentiful in Svalbard and even outnumber the human population there. Be aware you're not allowed to venture outside of Longyearbyen without a gun or a guide carrying one because of the danger of meeting a polar bear, which occasionally even enter the town.

One of the numerous peaks that are dotted around the city of Bergen, Mount Floyen is without a doubt the best place to get a great view of the city. Visitors can take the popular funicular which whisks people up from the city to the perfect viewpoint in just six minutes.

Another of the stunning rock formations found in Norway, Trolltunga or 'troll's tongue' in English is a unique stretch of stone jutting out from the huge cliffs that tower above the fjord valley. The hike here is far from easy, it takes at least 10 hours to get there, but those who manage it are highly rewarded with breathtaking views over the dramatic surrounding scenery.

9. North Cape (Finnmark)

North Cape is one of the most northerly points just off the mainland of Norway. This popular tourist attraction features a cliff with a flat surface on top, where you can stand and watch the sun at any part of the day, or just enjoy the beautiful scenery of Barents Sea. The cliff is another perfect spot for viewing the Northern Lights during the winter months here.

Conclusion

Even these stunning pictures of this awe-inspiring nation hardly do justice to the actual view as you stand before them. Don't just take our word for it, book a flight to this scenic wonderland and see it for yourself.
