Appleton is located in the state of Wisconsin, USA. The Fox River, which flows through the southern part of the town, runs from Lake Winnebago upstream to Lake Michigan. 1. Hearthstone Historic House Museum

The three-story Hearthstone Historic House Museum in Appleton is a tourist spot where the entire house has been turned into a museum. Complete with a chimney, its fine structure evokes the charm of old America. The terrace and balcony on the second floor are very well preserved. The museum offers guided tours, with hours from Thursday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (as of February 2019). It’s also nice to visit after having lunch.
The museum was originally built as a private residence on September 30, 1882, by Henry J. Rogers. The building is Victorian in style, and its electricity came from a nearby hydroelectric power station. Inside, you’ll find furnishings such as an old-fashioned bicycle with an unusually large front wheel, believed to have been used at the time, as well as sofas and other period furniture on display. The dining room has a fireplace, and during the Christmas season, a tree is also set up, adding to its charm.

2. Lawrence University

With its striking white exterior, Lawrence University is located in a scenic spot along the Fox River in Appleton and attracts many visitors. The Lawrence Memorial Chapel, reminiscent of the White House, features an impressive Greek-style entrance with six pillars. Above the pillars, the name “Lawrence Memorial Chapel” is engraved in large English letters, and an emblem is displayed above that. A large lantern hangs at the center of the three doors, showing the attention to detail in its design.

Appleton’s flagship campus is surrounded by greenery and has been built on a spacious site. Snow sometimes covers the ground, yet students can be seen moving briskly between the bare trees, as if accustomed to it. Inside the university, there is a hall for hosting classical concerts, complete with seating for the audience. It is a perfect spot for a stroll on a sunny day.

3. Fox Cities Stadium

Home to the Timber Rattlers, Fox Cities Stadium can accommodate 5,900 people and was built in Appleton in 1995. From home plate to the center-back fence is 400 feet (about 122 meters), and though small in scale, the stadium features a second tier over the infield, making it a proper baseball venue. Baseball-loving tourists will surely enjoy it.
The Timber Rattlers were originally known as the Fox Cities Foxes until 1958, playing at Goodland Field as their home. After changing their name to the Timber Rattlers, they moved their home to Fox Cities Stadium and restarted in 1995 as part of the Midwest League of Major League Baseball’s minor leagues.

4. St. Mary’s Catholic Church

St. Mary’s Catholic Church is located along West 7th Street, close to Jones Park in Appleton. This beige brick church gives a simple yet beautiful impression. Two symmetrical towers rise at the front, each topped with a cross. While simple in design, it exudes an air of elegance.
Upon entering the church, you will be captivated by the beautiful stained glass. Depicting stories from the Bible, the stained glass sparkles when light shines through, enhancing the solemn atmosphere. St. Mary’s Catholic Church is the oldest Catholic church in Appleton.
