Enjoy Shopping in Macedonia! Here Are the Recommended Spots

1. Old Bazaar

Located in the old town on the north bank of the Vardar River, which flows through the heart of Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, the Stara Čaršija is a bazaar that developed during the Ottoman Empire. Also known as the Old Bazaar, it is one of Skopje’s leading tourist destinations, surrounded by historical sites like mosques and the remnants of fortresses.
The cobblestone-lined bazaar still bustles with shops of all sizes, including many souvenir stores. You'll find a wide variety of items—from traditional souvenirs to Turkish-style crafts and nostalgic goods that recall the former Yugoslavia. If you’re planning to shop for souvenirs in Skopje, the Old Bazaar is highly recommended as you can also enjoy sightseeing in the area.

2. Macedonian Corner

Macedonian Corner is a souvenir specialty shop located within Skopje’s Old Bazaar. Though it may feel compact compared to shopping centers, the shop offers an abundant selection of Macedonia-related goods, so much so that merchandise is displayed even outside the store.
In particular, it has a strong lineup of small classic souvenirs like magnets and T-shirts. It’s a great option for those who prefer to buy everything in one place when souvenir shopping.

3. St. Clement of Ohrid Street

Macedonia’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site, the “Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Ohrid Region,” is a mixed heritage site centered on Lake Ohrid and the historic town of Ohrid along its shores. Ohrid is one of Europe’s oldest towns and is known for its many stone churches set against rugged hills and the lake’s scenic beauty, making it a beloved tourist destination.
The main street of Ohrid, St. Clement of Ohrid Street, is lined with shops selling Macedonian souvenirs. Among Macedonia’s various specialties, Ohrid is particularly famous for its freshwater pearls known as Ohrid Pearls, harvested from Lake Ohrid. These pearls are notable for being entirely composed of nacre, as they are formed without a nucleus. This makes Ohrid pearls mostly irregular in shape, a unique feature.
Naturally, there are many stores along St. Clement of Ohrid Street that sells these famous pearls, with prices ranging from affordable to premium. Their traditional craftsmanship and freshwater origin make them a must-see when visiting Ohrid.
