5 Recommended Night View Spots in Gunma Prefecture That Will Keep You Mesmerized
1. Gunma Prefectural Office Observation Hall
Our first recommended night view spot in Gunma is the "Gunma Prefectural Office Observation Hall." Located inside the Gunma Prefectural Office on the 32nd floor, the entire floor is open as a night view observatory. To enjoy the night views, you’ll need to take the elevator. The illuminated Gunma Bridge and the cityscape of Maebashi are truly stunning.
Keep in mind that the Observation Hall is only accessible during its designated operating hours, so be sure to check those before your visit.
2. Uenoyama Park “Tokimeki Deck”
At "Uenoyama Park Tokimeki Deck," you can enjoy a sweeping view of Maebashi City’s nightscape. This popular viewpoint is about a 5-minute walk from the park’s summit, which can also be accessed by ropeway from the Ikaho Onsen town; however, please note that the ropeway does not operate at night.
Uenoyama Park is situated at an elevation of 900 meters—so high that some even say it surpasses the “Top Three Night Views of Japan.” From the Tokimeki Deck, you can admire a magnificent, deep night view that has been described as "jewel-like."
Be cautious: the path from the parking area to Tokimeki Deck is unlit, so be sure to bring a flashlight when visiting at night.

3. Kannonzan Miharashidai
At "Kannonzan Miharashidai" in Gunma, you can enjoy night views from the comfort of your car. While there are several spots in Gunma where you can admire night views from your car, Miharashidai on Kannonzan stands out for its excellent brightness, expansive view, and depth. These elements are rarely found together at other night view spots, making Miharashidai extremely popular within Gunma.
However, note that the road here is narrow with many slopes, so it may not be ideal for novice drivers. Additionally, there is a cemetery deeper in the area where entry is prohibited—please take care to observe these restrictions.

4. Fujimi Pass
"Fujimi Pass" is heralded as one of the largest night view spots in Gunma Prefecture. Similar to Kannonzan Miharashidai, you can also enjoy the night scenery from your car. However, the rock outcrop beyond the parking lot offers an even better view, so if you are a night view enthusiast, it’s recommended that you get out of the car. Since the area is unlit, be sure to bring a flashlight when leaving your vehicle. If you don’t have one, it’s best to enjoy the view from your car window.
Fujimi Pass boasts one of the most expansive night views in Gunma, and its daytime scenery is also highly praised. Consider taking a drive during the day to scope out the area.

5. Mount Akagi
Our final recommended night view spot in Gunma is Mount Akagi. Here, you can view night scenery from various vantage points. The most acclaimed spot is the "Da Panorama Night View Observatory." As its name suggests, this observatory offers a breathtaking view of Gunma’s vast and beautiful nightscape, stretching from eastern Ōta City to western Takasaki City.
If the weather is clear and the temperature is low, you might even catch a glimpse of "Sunshine 60" on a nearby skyscraper, leading some to nicknamed the area "Sunshine Pass."
Reaching the Da Panorama Night View Observatory requires traversing a narrow and steep mountain road, but the spectacular view is well worth the effort. Do note that the road is closed during winter.
