How to Get to Suwon Hwaseong?

From Seoul, you can reach Hwaseong Fortress using the subway and bus. Take Seoul Subway Line 1 toward Cheonan, and after about one hour, get off at Suwon Station. From the bus stop in front of Suwon Station, take a bus to Paldalmun Gate, which takes approximately 10 minutes.

◆ Hwaseong Haenggung (Hwaseong Temporary Palace)

At the heart of Hwaseong Fortress lies Hwaseong Haenggung, the largest and most beautiful temporary palace (haenggung) in Korea. Important Tips for Visiting Suwon Hwaseong

Suwon Hwaseong covers an area equivalent to about 28 Tokyo Domes, making it one of the largest historical sites in Korea. A full circuit of the fortress takes at least two hours, so be prepared for a lot of walking.

Since the terrain has elevation changes, it’s best to wear comfortable shoes and loose clothing. Additionally, the Hwaseong Train, a trolley service running through the fortress, is available for those who prefer a more relaxed way to explore the site.
