The Secret of Power! Discover Sefa-utaki and Kudaka Island
What is Sefa-utaki?
Sefa-utaki is one of the most sacred spiritual sites in Ryukyu mythology. The name “Sefa” implies a place of the highest status, making it the supreme among the seven Utaki (sacred groves) found in Okinawa. This revered site is said to have been created by Amamikiyo, the ancestral goddess of the Ryukyu Kingdom, and is overflowing with spiritual energy and mystical power.
If you're planning to visit, you can purchase entry tickets at the Ganju Station – Nanjo. Admission fees are 300 yen for high school students and above, and 150 yen for elementary and junior high students.
To learn more about Sefa-utaki, check out the detailed skyticket travel guide linked below.
Kudaka Island, The Sacred Island Where Gods Gather

Kudaka Island is believed to be the place where Amamikiyo, the ancestral deity of the Ryukyu people, descended at Cape Kaberu located at the northern tip of the island. The sacred Ishiki Beach is also considered the landing site of gods arriving from Nirai Kanai, a mythical utopia beyond the sea. Moreover, the renowned Sefa-utaki — a sacred site on the Okinawan main island — is believed to gather spiritual energy (known as seji) flowing from Kudaka Island. Because of these deeply rooted beliefs, Kudaka Island is often referred to as "The Island of the Gods."
Access to Kudaka Island is via Azama Port, located north of Sefa-utaki. The island is home to a small population of just over 200 residents. Visitors should note that there are sacred areas on the island traditionally off-limits to men, so respectful observance of local customs is essential.
What are the Nanjo City Local Product Center and Nanjo Ganjyu Station?
Located in Okinawa’s Nanjo City, the Nanjo City Local Product Center is home to the “Bridge of Happiness” and features a scenic second-floor restaurant with ocean views. This center also sells a wide variety of merchandise themed around the city’s official mascot, Nanjii. Popular local specialties include the “Nanjii’s Milk Tart” (starting at ¥1,080) and the “Oujima Fish Sandwich” (¥300, available only on weekends and holidays).
Right next door, Nanjo Ganjyu Station offers hands-on cultural experiences like Ryukyuan costume try-ons and bike rentals. It also houses the Nanjo City Tourism Association, making it a perfect place to pick up sightseeing tips and travel information for your trip to Nanjo City.
Recharge Your Spirit at the Bridge of Happiness
How about giving it a try? While the “Bridge of Happiness” may look like a simple structure, locals believe that if you extend one hand toward Kudaka Island and the other toward Sefa Utaki, you'll be aligned with a powerful energy path said to bring good fortune. Whether it works or not is something you'll have to discover for yourself—by experiencing it firsthand.
