What is Kurima Bridge?

Kurima Bridge is a 1,690-meter-long agricultural road bridge that opened in March 1995, connecting Miyako’s main island with Kurima Island. From Kurima Bridge, you can enjoy a hidden-gem view of what is said to be Miyako’s most beautiful sea. Incidentally, the center of the bridge rises higher to allow boats to pass underneath.
Access to Kurima Bridge

It’s about 15 minutes by car from Miyako Airport, and about 30 minutes by car from Hirara Port.
If you’re sightseeing around Miyako’s main island or Kurima Island, traveling by car is the most convenient and comfortable option. If you need parking, you can use the parking lot in the nearby park.
Highlights of Kurima Bridge [By Car]

If you want to fully enjoy Kurima Bridge, driving is recommended. It’s famous as a scenic driving route. The roadway is wide and easy to drive on, so you can relax. Crossing by car takes just five minutes, but the refreshing sea breeze is irresistible!
From the bridge, you can feel the exhilaration of driving between the shimmering sea surface and the sky. Enjoy the view of Yonaha Maehama’s white sandy beach and the emerald-green sea. However, please note that parking on Kurima Bridge is prohibited.
Highlights of Kurima Bridge [On Foot]

Walking across Kurima Bridge at a leisurely pace takes about 30 minutes. If you want to take lots of Instagram-worthy photos or have extra time, sightseeing on foot is also recommended. You’ll feel as though you’re walking right on top of the ocean. Bicycles are also allowed to cross.
Up close, you’ll see the crystal-clear water and schools of fish swimming beneath you. As you walk along the bridge, Irabu Bridge comes into view in front of you.
◎ Cross Kurima Bridge to Kurima Island

What do you think? After crossing Kurima Bridge, you’ll find two observation decks on Kurima Island, where you can enjoy views of the bridge and Miyako’s main island. On a fine day, take a stroll along the walking paths and savor the peaceful flow of time and breathtaking scenery.
