Qingyang, also known as Longdong, is located at the easternmost end of Gansu Province. It was part of the region where the earliest Yellow River civilization flourished and is also the birthplace of Qin, the dynasty that first unified China. Qingyang also played an important role in the socialist revolution, making it home to many historical sites that are perfect for sightseeing. 1. Beishiku Temple
Beishiku Temple is a nationally protected cultural heritage site. The temple ruins, stretching 3 km north to south, were built in 509. Today, the temple holds 296 shrines housing Buddhist statues, 2,126 stone-carved statues, and several architectural ruins, making it one of the four great caves of Gansu Province. Inside the caves, there are seven Buddha statues, each 8 meters tall, and fourteen 4-meter-tall attendant bodhisattvas, all beautifully crafted. On the ceiling, stories of Shakyamuni’s previous lives are carved in relief, and on both walls inside and outside the cave entrance stand statues of Vajra warriors. Among the Northern Wei grotto groups, Beishiku is considered the largest and most valuable. In particular, Cave 240 is the representative grotto from the Northern Zhou period of Beishiku Temple.
2. Zhouzu Tomb Forest Park
Zhouzu Tomb Forest Park is named after the famous mausoleum located at its summit. It is one of the oldest historical sites in China, surrounded by lush, beautiful nature, making it a popular tourist destination that attracts many visitors each year. The highlights include the grand Zhouzu Hall as well as the stunning panoramic views from the mountaintop. From spring to early summer, apricot blossoms bloom in full, and willow leaves flourish in green. In autumn, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the autumn foliage.

3. Nanliang Revolution Memorial Hall
The Nanliang Revolution Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the Shaan-Gan Border Soviet Government established in the 1930s by the Northwest Red Army, led by Xi Zhongxun (the father of current President Xi Jinping), Liu Zhidan, Xie Zichang, and others. Today, many revolutionary relics remain around the memorial hall, including Xi Zhongxun’s former residence and the old site of Lenin Elementary School. The exhibition hall displays 71 relics such as weapons and saddles used at the time.
