Its unique characteristics include a soup made with beef bone extract and three types of miso—red, miso, and barley miso—as well as noodles made from “Nishinokaori,” a wheat grown in Mie. In addition, the use of three types of locally produced mushrooms is a must for Kameyama Ramen.

Introducing the Famous Kameyama Ramen Shops of Mie’s Local Ramen!
1. Shirokuma Ramen – Kameyama Main Store
“Shirokuma Ramen” is located on the eastern edge of downtown Kameyama. With a wide-ranging menu, this shop offers not only Kameyama Ramen but also miso, tonkotsu, shoyu, salt ramen, as well as styles inspired by Hakata, curry ramen, and “Yukinko (paitan)” among others. They also serve rice dishes such as fried rice, tenshindon, yakisoba, gesso, kushikatsu, and various snacks. The spacious restaurant features both counter and table seating and is always bustling with local customers.
The Kameyama Ramen at Shirokuma is a rich and hearty miso ramen with a slight kick of spiciness. The balanced flavor comes from the sweetness of barley miso, the depth of rice malt, and the savory umami of soybeans. The noodles are medium-thin and slightly curly with a tender bite, and true to the style of Kameyama Ramen, it includes three kinds of mushrooms.
A quirky tip: if you visit Shirokuma Ramen, try using their restroom first! The walls there are lined with rolls of toilet paper—a curious and famous feature of the shop.
2. Ueda Shokudo
Located at the foot of Mie Prefectural Kameyama High School, “Ueda Shokudo” is a well-known eatery famous for its miso-yaki udon with Kameyama-style offal. Their Kameyama Ramen features a 100% beef bone soup, meticulously prepared by splitting the bones and simmering them for a long time. The resulting rich, robust, and slightly spicy miso broth, paired with chewy curly noodles and crisp hiratake mushrooms, creates a wonderfully balanced and delicious dish.
Ueda Shokudo is also renowned for its miso dishes beyond ramen and yakisoba udon. Their miso-yaki udon, with its concentrated flavor, is unforgettable—making it hard to choose between Kameyama Ramen and their signature miso-yaki udon with offal.

With a thick, rich sesame base enhanced by house-made chili oil and specially developed noodles, their tantanmen is exquisite.
Their take on Kameyama Ramen, with its unique flavor, is also very popular. Sets that include salad, rice, and pickles are recommended. Enjoying local ramen in a spacious and upscale Chinese restaurant complete with a Japanese garden and tatami seating is a delightful experience.
