Kiyosato Terrace is a scenic terrace located within the rapidly rising-in-popularity Sun Meadows Kiyosato in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. It stays cool even in summer, and on clear days you can admire views of Mt. Fuji and the Nobeyama Plateau, making it a current hot spot.
In 2021, it was open from May to November.

Where is Kiyosato Terrace?

Here is the location of Kiyosato Terrace. It is in the northwest part of Yamanashi Prefecture, close to Nagano Prefecture. Even at the foot of the mountain, the elevation exceeds 1,500m, so it’s cool even in summer.

Ride with your dog! Lift fares to Kiyosato Terrace

A round-trip lift ticket is required for Kiyosato Terrace. Lift fares are 1,800 yen for junior high school students and older, 1,200 yen for elementary school students, and 1,000 yen for ages 3 and above. The Sun Meadows Kiyosato official website also offers discount coupons. Lift operating hours vary depending on the season, and the latest downward lift runs until 16:30 at the latest.

Dogs can ride with you as long as they are placed in a bag or cage that covers them fully; cages are available for free rental. If your dog cannot fit in a cage, they can be transported using a wheelchair-accessible lift for an additional 1,000 yen.

At the summit of Kiyosato Terrace, reached by lift, you can take in views of the Nobeyama Plateau and the Chichibu Mountain Range. On clear days, Mt. Fuji can also be seen. The vivid blue of the sky here is called “Yatsugatake Blue.” During peak times, there is a 30-minute time limit, but you can still relax on the sofas and enjoy the scenery.

Day Camp by Kiyosato Terrace

In the mid-mountain area of Kiyosato Terrace, you can enjoy barbecuing during a day camp. Hours are from 10:30 to 15:30. Sets such as Koshu wine beef and Fuji Sakura pork are available (no outside food allowed), and you can add extra meat, seafood, and other items for an additional fee.

At the foot of the mountain, the Center House features the restaurant “Sundance,” known for its delicious chicken grill and bagna càuda; “Kiyosato Bakery,” where you can enjoy carefully crafted bread and sandwiches; and the souvenir shop “Kiyosato Marche.”

Next to the Panorama Lift is a dog run called “Wanwan Terrace,” where you can let your dog run freely without a leash. It’s wonderful to be able to travel together with your pet.

By train, take the JR Chuo Main Line from Tokyo, transfer to the Koumi Line at Kobuchizawa Station, and get off at Kiyosato Station. From there, it’s about a 5-minute taxi ride.
From Kiyosato Station, you can take the Kiyosato Sightseeing “Picnic Bus” to “Sun Meadows Kiyosato,” about 20 minutes. (Please note: Service may not operate on certain days depending on the season, and there may be route changes or reduced schedules. Fare is 500 yen per adult per ride. 1-day, 2-day, and disability discount tickets are available.)

If traveling by car, it’s about 20 minutes from the Nagasaka IC on the Chuo Expressway. From the nearest airport, Shinshu Matsumoto Airport (Matsumoto Airport), it takes about 1.5 hours.
