Vietnam’s Premier Resort Island! A Travel Guide to Enjoying Phu Quoc Island
Classic! Sao Beach

Sao Beach, located in the southeast of Phu Quoc Island, is considered the most beautiful beach on the island. The beach has distinct characteristics in the north, central, and south areas, so we will introduce each one.
First, the southern part of the beach. This area is said to have the clearest and most beautiful waters. It is also less crowded, with hammock huts available, making it a peaceful and quiet beach. If you want to relax and take your time, the southern side is highly recommended.
In the central part of Sao Beach, many boats are anchored, and it tends to be more crowded. If you’re looking to enjoy a serene ocean view, this may not be the best spot.
However, it is popular for its variety of restaurants and water activities such as canoeing. If you want to enjoy good food or have fun with marine sports, this area is perfect for you.
Additionally, the iconic overwater swing, perfect for Instagram-worthy photos, is also located in the central part of the beach. It is a popular attraction for those on girls’ trips who want cute and memorable pictures.

As you move from the central area towards the north, the number of tourists decreases. There are beach chairs where you can admire the beautiful ocean, and stylish restaurants offering a wide selection of smoothies and sandwiches, allowing you to spend a peaceful and elegant time.
There is also a picturesque swing in this area, and unlike the overwater swing in the central beach, it is free to use, so be sure to try it out. Sao Beach is bustling with tourists year-round, but the best season to visit is from November to April.
With its beautiful overwater swings and stylish restaurants, it is perfect for couples and girls’ trips. Additionally, the wide range of marine activities makes it an ideal destination for family vacations. Sao Beach is a must-visit spot when exploring Phu Quoc Island.

This cable car connects the southern tip of Phu Quoc Island to Hon Roi Island, Hon Dua Island, and Hon Thom Island, making it the longest oversea cable car in the world and a popular tourist attraction. On Hon Thom Island, a massive theme park called "Hon Thom Nature Park" is currently under development, and its water park "Aquatopia" was opened in December 2019.

Step into the large 30-passenger cabin, and your sky journey begins. As soon as you leave the station, you’ll see a sea filled with colorful fishing boats in shades of orange, green, and blue. From above, they look like adorable toy boats!
As you continue your ride, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Vietnamese townscapes and the stunning emerald-green ocean, making for a truly luxurious aerial experience.

Famous! Nuoc Mam Factory Tour
Nuoc Mam (Fish Sauce) is an essential condiment in Vietnamese cuisine. Similar to soy sauce in Japan, it is widely used in stir-fries, stews, and as a dipping sauce, making it a staple ingredient in Vietnamese cooking.
Although it has a flavor similar to soy sauce, Nuoc Mam is made from fish instead of soybeans. It shares similarities with Thailand’s Nam Pla, but since it uses different types of fish, the taste varies despite having nearly the same ingredients.
Nuoc Mam also contains less salt than Nam Pla, making it a great option for those who prefer a lower-sodium diet.
In Phu Quoc Island, visitors can tour a Nuoc Mam production factory. Both guided tours and self-guided visits are allowed without reservations, making it an easy and accessible experience.
Inside the factory, you’ll see massive wooden barrels nearly 3 meters high, where small fish and salt are fermented to create this famous fish sauce.
Nuoc Mam is primarily produced in Phu Quoc, Phan Thiet, and Central Vietnam, but the Nuoc Mam from Phu Quoc is considered the highest quality. Those with a concentration of 40 degrees or more are especially regarded as premium-grade.
At the factory’s adjacent shop, you can purchase high-quality Nuoc Mam as a souvenir! Since the factory has a distinct fishy smell, it may take some getting used to, but it is definitely a must-visit spot for those interested in Vietnamese cuisine.
