7 Recommended Sightseeing Spots in Tateyama|Perfect for a Day Trip from Tokyo & Full of Seasonal Charm!?
1. Okinoshima

The first sightseeing spot we’ll introduce in Tateyama is Okinoshima, a former island that became connected to the mainland due to an earthquake.
Okinoshima is famous for its clear blue waters where coral reefs thrive. It was once an uninhabited island floating in Tokyo Bay, but after the Great Kanto Earthquake, the land rose and sand began to accumulate, eventually forming a land bridge around 1953. The sandy beach stretching about 200 meters from the mainland to the island is open to the public in the summer as a swimming area, attracting many visitors from both inside and outside Tateyama City each year.
If you want to enjoy water play on the island, visiting one of the coves is recommended. The shallow waters and calm waves make it safe even for small children. When the tide goes out, you can enjoy exploring the tidal pools and observing marine life. On the northern side of the island, there's a natural pool originally made for fishing, which now serves as a great spot for diving and water play.
Okinoshima is full of highlights, including a cave used as a bunker during World War II, the "Uga Myojin" shrine said to have been built by Minamoto no Chikamoto, and a hidden spot where you can collect beautiful seashells. It's definitely a place worth visiting.
2. Bōsō Flower Line

Selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Roads, the Bōsō Flower Line is a scenic route that connects Shimomachi in Tateyama City to Wada Town in neighboring Minamibōsō City. Spanning approximately 46 kilometers along the coastline, this drive is known as one of the top sightseeing spots in Tateyama, beautifully adorned with seasonal flowers throughout the year.
Tateyama is known for its mild climate, and spring arrives earlier here than in other cities. Around January, fields of rapeseed blossoms begin to bloom, painting the roadside in vivid yellow. Following that, camellias, hydrangeas, poppies, marigolds, and other beautiful flowers bloom throughout the year.
Along the Bōsō Flower Line, you’ll find several flower-filled spots and parks such as Tateyama Family Park, Shirama Flower Fields, and Rosemary Park. There are also direct sales outlets where you can purchase potted plants and fresh-cut flowers at reasonable prices—perfect for a quick stopover.

The park is filled with Hawaiian elements. You can enjoy hula and Tahitian dance shows held several times a day, dine at restaurants offering Hawaiian cuisine, and shop for Hawaiian goods. Be sure not to miss the hibiscus and bougainvillea—classic Hawaiian blooms!
Within the premises is the "Aloha ZOO," where you can interact with capybaras, rabbits, goats, sheep, and guinea pigs. Families with children keep the place lively all day long. Be sure to check the website for feeding times if you'd like to experience giving treats to the animals.

4. Awa Shrine

Located in Tateyama City, Awa Shrine is one of Japan’s three major shrines for financial fortune. When the Japanese archipelago is likened to a dragon, Awa Shrine sits at the claw of the dragon at the southern tip of the Bōsō Peninsula, making it known as a powerful spiritual spot believed to "grab and never let go" of good fortune.
The shrine enshrines Ame-no-Futodama-no-Mikoto, the god credited with founding Japan’s industries, making it a popular place of worship for people involved in craftsmanship and manufacturing. Because it is a place where strong energies are said to gather, it is recommended to visit during the day rather than at night, when the power may feel overwhelming.
Awa Shrine is also one of the top cherry blossom viewing spots in Tateyama, so visiting during full bloom season is highly recommended. Viewing cherry blossoms in such a solemn atmosphere is sure to be a special experience!
