Hong Kong Gourmet Delights to Enjoy in Tsim Sha Tsui: 3 Healthy Vegetable Dish Spots
1. Luk Yung Sin Kwun
Known as one of the top vegetarian restaurants not only in Tsim Sha Tsui but also in all of Hong Kong, Luk Yung Sin Kwun enjoys a strong reputation for delicious meat-free Chinese cuisine. Even on weekday evenings, expect a wait due to its popularity. The restaurant feels more like a casual cha chaan teng than a formal Chinese restaurant, and the prices are quite affordable.
Though no meat or fish is used, the appearance of the dishes is indistinguishable from regular Chinese food. The cooking is simple, without overwhelming seasoning or decorative garnishes. Their Lo Han Fried Noodles (羅漢賽炒麵)—stir-fried noodles with vegetables and tofu skin—is highly praised even by non-vegetarians. It also has a good reputation as a type of Japanese-style shojin ryori (Buddhist cuisine). A staple for Hong Kong vegetarians is Chai Lo Mei (齋鹵味), a variety of tofu skin preparations with a texture different from Japanese versions—definitely worth trying with authentic Chinese seasoning!
2. Gong De Lin Shanghai Vegetarian Cuisine (Tsim Sha Tsui Branch)
Located on the 7th floor of the modern and stylish “One Peking Road” building in Tsim Sha Tsui, Gong De Lin Shanghai Vegetarian Cuisine is a well-known restaurant for Shanghai-style vegetable dishes. The word 素食 in the restaurant name means vegetarian or Buddhist cuisine in Chinese. Naturally, no meat or fish is used. What makes this place unique is that even invigorating vegetables like green onions and garlic are excluded.
Uncommonly for vegetarian restaurants, all dishes are made without chemical seasonings, making them especially healthy. The “chicken” in their Bang Bang Chicken is made from tofu, the “pork” in twice-cooked pork is mochi, and the “meatballs” are made from okara (soy pulp) and mushrooms. The “shark fin” is actually glass noodles. Looking at the menu, you'll find dishes like dumplings, shrimp in chili sauce, and mapo tofu—all impressively similar to their meat-based counterparts in both appearance and texture. A truly surprising experience!

3. On-Yasai (Tsim Sha Tsui Branch)
On-Yasai, a shabu-shabu restaurant under the Gyu-Kaku Group, now has a branch in Tsim Sha Tsui’s massive Harbour City shopping mall. They fly in fresh and safe vegetables from contracted farms in Japan, and also import pork and beef from Kyushu.
When it comes to vegetable dishes at On-Yasai, the hot pot is a must. Each table comes with an individual hot plate, allowing guests to enjoy their own personal pot. Dip the carefully grown vegetables into your choice of signature broths and enjoy the gentle sweetness that fills your mouth. For à la carte vegetable options, the menu includes items like “Choregi Salad,” “Basil Cheese Tomato Salad,” and “Cucumber with Spicy Cod Roe Mayo.”
