It's no secret Japan has one of the most coveted cuisines in the world. Often with light but addictive flavors, the food here appeals to everyone. Even if you're just passing through the airport, you'll find a number of delicious places to eat all around the airport.

For the vegans among us, while in much of Japan it can be quite difficult to satisfy a vegan diet, Tokyo is a different story. In fact even in the airport you'll find popular restaurant T's Tantan has a branch, offering delicious vegan ramen.

Check out the Kabuki Gate

To get a taste for the traditional arts of Japan, through security in Terminal 1 is home to the Kabuki Gate, a kabuki-themed gallery that displays costumes used for this popular style of Japanese theater. There's even a photo app which will transform you into a kabuki actor. Best of all it's all free. If you're looking for some traditional-themed souvenirs however, there's also a gift shop.

Pick up some Japanese Snacks and Souvenirs

While most airport gift shops tend to increase prices up to five times the price it's worth, Narita is actually great for picking up some last minute gifts. Most offerings actually come at the same prices you'll find in the city, sometimes with extras you could never get there. It's great for people passing through who want to indulge on some of the most popular Japanese snacks, but also perfect for those who don't want to add extra luggage for gifts and souvenirs until the very last minute. Some ideas to consider are the huge range of Kit Kat flavors or the popular Tokyo Banana gift box.

Use up Your Change at Gacha

Tucked away in the basement of Terminal 2 and on the fifth floor of Terminal 1 you'll find a huge line of 'gatcha machines'. These little toy vending machines are great for using spare change that would otherwise just go to waste. Pop in a few hundred yen coins and you'll get a capsule with a toy inside. It's generally a surprise and up to chance as to which toy you'll get, however that's all part of the fun. The machines usually display the range of toys that are inside each machine.

Admire the View from the Observation Decks

For the aviation enthusiasts among us, both terminals are home to large observation decks where you can gaze at planes to your heart's content and get a breath of fresh air. You'll find telescopes too, perfect for getting a glimpse of those in the distance. Terminal 1's is located on the fifth floor whereas you'll find the observation deck at the fourth floor in Terminal 2.

Conclusion

As the main port of call for most passengers traveling to or through Japan, Narita Airport is well equipped for those that need to kill a little time. For an innovative guide to the airport, download the 'NariCo' app on your phone, it's basically Narita Airport's version of Siri, ask it what you want to know and it'll try its best to help out.
