El Al Becomes First Airline to Vaccinate All Staff

The flag carrier of Israel El Al has become the first airline to vaccinate all customer facing staff such as pilots, flight crews and ground agents.

Other airlines in Israel are also well on the way to completing staff vaccination programs, Arkia Israeli Airlines have so far vaccinated around 70% and Israir 95% of their employees as of last weekend.

Israel is one of the leading countries in the race to vaccinate their population against the coronavirus, about a quarter of the population have received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The rise of cases in the country has been dropping since the last couple of weeks.

El Al Becomes First Airline to Vaccinate All Staff

Israel has been in lockdown since 8 January after a sharp rise in cases of COVID-19, traveling there is prohibited except in special circumstances. The main airport serving Tel Aviv, Ben Gurion Airport has also been closed but will reopen on Saturday to allow citizens stranded abroad to return home.

Etihad Airways last week also made the news by becoming the first airline to vaccinate all of their currently operating pilots and flight attendants.

While the successful vaccination plans do not suggest international travel will start to return to normal any time soon, it's a step in the right direction.
