Unforgettable Night Views in Tokushima Prefecture! 7 Recommended Night View Spots
1. Mt. Bizan - Summit Observation Deck
A must-visit landmark in Tokushima Prefecture, Mt. Bizan is a symbol of the area and gained wider recognition thanks to the movie adaptation of Masashi Sada’s novel Bizan. The mountain is so named because its shape resembles an eyebrow when viewed from any direction.
Standing 280 meters above sea level, the summit has been developed into Bizan Park, a popular destination for families and couples seeking breathtaking views. While visitors can drive up to the top, a convenient ropeway is also available. Do note that the ropeway operates only until the evening from November to March, so plan accordingly if you're hoping to enjoy the nightscape. From the summit, you’ll be treated to a sweeping panorama that includes the Yoshino River, known as the “Saburo of Shikoku,” and Tokushima City. The distinctive three bridges spanning the Yoshino River add to the charm, and on clear days, you can even see as far as Wakayama across Osaka Bay. This spectacular night view, renowned for its grandeur, has been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Night Views.
2. Mt. Bizan - Flower and Bird Observation Square
Although the summit of Mt. Bizan, accessed by ropeway (as introduced above) is the most famous night-view spot, there’s another hidden gem just a 1-2 minute drive downhill: the Flower and Bird Observation Square.
This charming square features a gazebo gifted by Saginaw, Michigan—Tokushima’s sister city—in honor of the city’s 100th anniversary. Visitors can relax on benches and take in the stunning views. From here, you can admire the glittering lights of the Yoshino River area and the southeastern part of Tokushima City. The tranquil and romantic atmosphere of this square makes it a perfect complement to the summit observation deck, so don’t miss the opportunity to visit both.

3. Hinomine Omiko Regional Park
Hinomine Omiko Regional Park, located at the base of Mount Hinomine, is a vast urban park equipped with facilities such as a campground, an athletic field, and tennis courts. The park features two observation points: from the northern observation deck, you can enjoy views of Tokushima City, while the southern observation deck offers a night view of Komatsushima City.
The northern observation deck has ambient lighting, creating a pleasant atmosphere, resembling a small private viewpoint. On the other hand, the southern observation deck has a larger space and offers a more impressive night view. While it’s a bustling spot during the day, the night view remains an under-the-radar attraction, making it highly recommended!

4. Hinomine Shrine
If you continue up the mountain road from Hinomine Omiko Regional Park, you’ll reach Hinomine Shrine. Interestingly, the parking lot here is a night view spot. With nothing obstructing the view, parking your car facing the scenery will allow the city lights along Komatsushima Bay to fill your windshield.
This location is particularly special as it’s one of the few spots in Tokushima Prefecture where you can enjoy night views from the comfort of your car. However, the parking area is quite limited, with space for only about five vehicles, so be prepared to wait during busy times. For those who prefer stepping out and soaking in the view, Hinomine Omiko Regional Park offers a spacious and equally spectacular alternative.
5. Kounoyama Park
Kounoyama Park is located on the small Kōnoyama, which stands about 100 meters tall. It is a spot where you can enjoy the night view of Yoshinogawa City from various points in the park. With an unobstructed view, the open atmosphere provides a 180-degree panorama. You can look toward Tokushima City's suburbs to the east and Yoshinogawa City to the north.
From Christmas to New Year's, the park is illuminated with lights, making it a recommended time to visit. The weeping cherry blossoms in spring are also stunning, making it great for cherry blossom viewing. This spot is perfect for those who want to relax and enjoy the night view in a quiet place.

6. Shinmachi River Waterfront Park
Next is Shinmachi River Waterfront Park, a night view spot you can enjoy even without a car. Located along the Shinmachi River, which flows south of Tokushima Station, the beautifully maintained park was used as a filming location for the movie Bizan, based on the work of Masashi Sada.
At night, the area is lit up with illuminations and LED lights. Bridges are illuminated, blue lights line the promenades, and the zelkova trees are decorated with illumination. Being so close to Tokushima Station, why not take a stroll to enjoy the night view?

7. Mimuragaoka
Located at an elevation of 520 meters in Mima City, Tokushima Prefecture, Mimuragaoka is known for being a glider base. From here, you can enjoy night views of Wakimachi in Mima City to the south, Wakimachi and Awa City to the southwest, and as far as Tokushima City to the west-southwest.
After walking about three minutes along the trail from the parking lot, you will arrive at the lodge. From there, if you walk about a minute to the left, you’ll find a path leading downwards, which is where the glider base is located. The open space here offers a fantastic vantage point to enjoy the night view.
