Here are 4 must-visit attractions—including museums—in Jurong, Singapore
1. Chinese Gardens
Chinese Gardens are located on an island in the middle of Jurong Lake. Spanning 13.5 hectares and designed in the imperial style of northern China, the garden was designed by Taiwanese artist Yuen-chen Yu and gives you a taste of ancient Chinese ambiance. Its nostalgic, distinctly Asian scenery draws many visitors.
At the entrance, you are greeted by two stone lion statues, and throughout the garden, you’ll find Chinese-style bridges and buildings. A famous spot is the “Twin Pagodas,” where two triple-storied pagodas stand side by side. In addition, the “Bonsai Garden,” featuring a collection of over 100 bonsai trees, is impressive. The recommended times to visit are during the Chinese New Year period (late January to early February) and the Mid-Autumn Festival in October, when events are held and the gardens are beautifully lit up at night.
Incidentally, the Chinese Gardens are connected by a bridge to the Japanese Gardens. Together, they are sometimes referred to as “The Chinese and Japanese Gardens” or “Jurong Lake Gardens.” Enjoy the beautiful gardens of Jurong!
2. The Science Centre Singapore
Located just east of Jurong Lake is The Science Centre Singapore. This museum offers fun and interactive exhibits on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with over a thousand different displays.
The exhibits are organized by theme and are noted for their high design quality. There are also shows and demonstrations. One popular event is the “Tesla Coil Demonstration,” where powerful electricity creates up to a 3-meter lightning bolt in mid-air. The “Fire Tornado Demonstration” displays a dynamic scene where flames spiral upward within a large, transparent cylindrical enclosure. Since some demonstrations run only once a day, it’s best to check the schedule in advance.
The centre also has plenty of outdoor facilities. Right in front of the Science Centre is the “Kinetic Garden,” an outdoor exhibit that resembles a giant playground. In the “Ecogarden,” you can see a variety of plants ranging from common vegetables to the king of fruits, durian. There is even a section that replicates a rubber tree plantation. With so many highlights, this museum is definitely worth a visit.

3. Kids Stop
Adjacent to the Science Centre, connected via a corridor along with the Omni-Theatre, is Kids Stop. (Note: Snow City Singapore is the most northern and is housed in a separate building.) Here, we introduce Kids Stop.
Kids Stop is a very cute science museum designed for children aged 1½ to 8 years. The space is filled with colorful and pop objects that sparkle the eyes of little ones. The area is divided into four sections: “Imagine,” “Experience,” “Discover,” and “Dream.”
For example, the “Imagine” section supports natural “pretend play” to boost creativity and communication skills. In the “Supermarket” corner, an attractively re-created supermarket allows children to enjoy a realistic shopping experience, pushing around a small cart and filling it with an assortment of “products” like fish and fruits, which is sure to delight.
There are dining areas named “Lijiang Restaurant” and “Kid's Café.” A family-friendly feature is the “Kids Eat Free” offer, where for every adult meal purchased at a price of 20 dollars, one child’s meal is free. Families visiting the area should definitely take advantage of this!

4. Jurong Bird Park
Located about 7 km southwest of Jurong Lake is Jurong Bird Park, Asia’s largest avian paradise. Home to approximately 5,000 birds representing 400 species, the park is a wonderland for bird lovers. Set amidst lush greenery reminiscent of a jungle, a tram runs throughout the expansive park, so plan for at least a half-day visit—ideally a full day.
One standout area is the “Waterfall Aviary,” which features an artificial waterfall 30 meters high—a dynamic spectacle. There is a viewing deck on the first floor a short distance from the waterfall’s base. Another viewing area on the second floor offers a bird’s-eye perspective of the entire waterfall. Amid over 100 species of plants, 600 colorful birds freely fly around.
At “Pelican Cove,” eight species of pelicans live together, making it the most comprehensive pelican exhibit in the world. You might even get a close-up view of pelicans diving into the water to catch fish. At a daily feeding session, tourists have the chance to feed the pelicans.
Next to Pelican Cove is the “Flamingo Pond,” where you can enjoy a unique event called “Lunch with Parrots,” in which you dine while watching a parrot show. This event, which pairs an Asian cuisine meal with a 30-minute show, requires online reservation.
Jurong Bird Park has been loved by Singaporean citizens for many years. It is scheduled to relocate to the northern Mandai region in 2020. The closure date for Jurong Bird Park has not yet been announced. As of September 2017, it continues to operate normally, with annual passports available. If you’re interested, be sure to visit soon before the relocation.
