No doubt it will look great on SNS! Stylish sightseeing spot: Recommended ways to enjoy Shima Mediterranean Village
Shima Mediterranean Village is a tourist facility that recreates the towns along the Mediterranean coast with the sea of Ise-Shima as its backdrop. Once you pass through the gate, you’ll find rows of beautiful whitewashed buildings combined with the view of the marine blue sea, giving you the feeling of having truly arrived in a foreign land. The village is divided into five different zones, each offering a unique atmosphere.
Although the main feature is its accommodation facilities, there are also restaurants, craft workshops, and tours of the premises, so it’s possible to visit just for the day. This time, we’ll introduce some recommended ways to enjoy Shima Mediterranean Village.

No doubt it will look great on SNS! Stylish sightseeing spot: Recommended ways to enjoy Shima Mediterranean Village
1. Where is it located?
Shima Mediterranean Village is situated facing Kashikojima across Ago Bay. Since it takes about 40 minutes on foot from the nearest bus stop, access solely by public transportation is not recommended. The main ways to get there are by private car, rental car, or taxi/shuttle bus from the nearest station.
There are also two parking areas. The “Day-use & Overnight Parking Lot” is a 1-minute walk from the entrance gate, and the “Temporary Parking Lot” is about a 10-minute walk away. Parking is free of charge. If you are staying overnight, you may only park in the “Day-use & Overnight Parking Lot,” but for day visitors, either lot can be used.
2. Strolling through the village streets
When visiting Shima Mediterranean Village, the first thing to do is stroll around and enjoy the exotic atmosphere. Since elements of different regions are scattered throughout, the scenery varies from area to area.
■ Castile Zone
Buildings with simple stone-framed windows spread out, giving off the feeling of Spain’s mountainous regions.
■ Sardinia Zone
Both indoors and outdoors, the earthen walls and freely curving windows reflect the charm of western Italy.
■ Mykonorca Zone
Modeled after resort areas like Greece and Spain, this zone feels open and liberating.
■ Alhambra Zone
Features a natural hot spring inspired by the Alhambra Palace, which is especially appealing.
Among these, the recommended highlight is the “Andalusia Zone.” This area was designed after Andalusia, a Mediterranean region in southern Spain. Beneath the blue sky, orange roofs and pure white walls spread out, with the color contrast creating a truly breathtaking view. Its bright and lively streetscape is perhaps the place where you can feel the spirit of passionate Spain the most.
3. Experience corners (workshops & fishing)
After a stroll, the experience corners such as crafts and fishing are also recommended. In the craft workshop, you can create original items such as trays and coasters using mosaic tiles (a cultural hallmark of Barcelona, Spain), Mediterranean-style white house planters, and pearl accessories. They also make wonderful keepsakes to decorate your home.
For fishing, there are two options: pier fishing, where you cast a line from the village pier, and raft fishing, where you can rent a raft for a private experience. Among the two, pier fishing is recommended because it can be enjoyed at a reasonable price. While fishing, you can also fully take in the beautiful scenery of Ago Bay spreading out before your eyes.
4. Lunch at a café
When having lunch at Shima Mediterranean Village, enjoying a delicious meal at the restaurants is of course a great choice, but for those who want to casually enjoy a stylish space, we recommend “Café Amigo.” Inside, all the chairs and tables are unified in Mediterranean blue, and together with the whiteness of the walls, they create an elegant and stylish atmosphere.
Not only indoors, but on sunny days you can also enjoy lunch or coffee on the terrace or in the courtyard, making you feel as if you’re really dining in a Mediterranean town. Depending on your mood, you can experience the Mediterranean ambiance in various settings.
■ Name: Café Amigo
■ Business Hours: 9:00–18:00 (Last Order 17:30)
■ Closed: None
5. Enjoy shopping
There are three select shops in Shima Mediterranean Village. Among them, “Casa Amapola” offers imported goods and foods from the Mediterranean coastal regions. Located near the fountain in the center of the village, it’s a perfect place to stop by before heading home.
You’ll find many colorful Mediterranean-style tableware and miscellaneous goods that can instantly brighten up your home or dining table. As a casual gift or souvenir for friends and acquaintances, we recommend the honey-infused “Spanish Tea,” which you can also enjoy in the village’s restaurants and cafés. It’s one of the most popular items in the village, with a gentle sweetness that’s pleasantly addictive—sure to be well-received.
6. Ago Bay cruising
There are two cruising plans for Ago Bay, each with its own charm. During the daytime, the day cruise lets you fully enjoy the beauty of the calm waves of Ago Bay along with the nature-rich scenery created by its many islands. The contrast of the islands and the sea is breathtaking, and time will surely fly by.
For the sunset cruise, available only during sunset hours, you can watch the stunning sun sink into Ago Bay, which has been selected as one of the “100 Best Sunsets in Japan.” The combination of Ago Bay and the sunset creates a fantastical landscape of breathtaking beauty.
7. Romantic Stays
While Shima Mediterranean Village can certainly be enjoyed as a day trip, the accommodations also offer facilities full of Mediterranean atmosphere, making an overnight stay highly recommended.
There are casual, apartment-like rooms available, but once in a lifetime, it’s worth staying in a bay-view room with a sweeping view of Ago Bay. With an Arabic-style natural hot spring and deluxe guest rooms, you can spend an elegant and relaxing time.
At night, the entire village is lit up, creating a space filled with romantic ambiance. Being able to enjoy this atmosphere is a privilege unique to overnight guests.
