1. Kururi Castle

A representative castle of Chiba Prefecture, "Kururi Castle" is also known for being the base of the Satomi clan during the Sengoku period. It was even called "Ame-jo" (Rain Castle) because of the continuous rain during its construction. Unfortunately, it was abandoned and demolished in the 5th year of the Meiji era, so today, the only structure that can be seen is the keep that was built on the ruins of the main citadel in 1979. For those interested in learning more about the history of Kururi Castle, it is recommended to visit the Kimitsu City Kururi Castle Ruins Museum, located in the second citadel.
Here, you can find various exhibits related to Kimitsu, Kururi Castle, as well as artifacts from past castle lords and items excavated in Kimitsu city. History enthusiasts will especially enjoy this. If you’re lucky, the staff may guide you through the museum. Both the museum and the keep are located after climbing a steep slope, so it is important to be cautious, especially for elderly visitors or those with children.
2. Kameyama Lake

Kameyama Lake, the largest dam lake in Chiba Prefecture, was constructed over a period of approximately ten years. It is a popular leisure spot in Kimitsu, offering activities such as cruising, fishing, and boating. If you plan to visit, autumn is definitely the best time! You can see some of the latest color changes in the beautiful autumn leaves, which are said to be the latest in Japan.
Make sure to enjoy the breathtaking views from the lake side, not just from the land. You can take a sightseeing boat cruise or paddle a rental boat yourself. Kameyama Lake is also a popular spot for kayakers, and you can even experience canoeing.
The area around the lake has a variety of facilities, including campsites, hot springs, and golf courses, suitable for both children and adults. If you don't have a car, there are highway bus tours from the city center, which are worth checking out.
