Alamosa takes its name from a Spanish adjective Alamosa which means cottonwood. Alamosa is located along the Rio Grande in San Luis Valley and it is considered to be the highest point for agriculture in the United States. Alamosa elevation is about 2,300 meters. Alamosa is the most populous city in Alamosa County which is in Colorado. Alamosa has a population of 9,918 as at the year 2016. Alamosa is the commercial center of the San Luis Valley in the south central part of Colorado.
